Brief Book Review: Universal Usability: Designing Computer Interfaces for Divers Users

This 626-pages book collects 19 contributions on user interface design for a number of diverse user groups, including disabled people. The book provides a good understanding of the problems related to designing user interfaces for various target groups , such as young children (section 1), people with autism (section 9), people with visual impairments (sections 5 and 6), people with Down syndrome (section 7), and older adults. Focus on application and real cases is especially pleasing for those who are looking for real examples when referring to an HCI technical book. Each project provides suggestions and design guidelines through a research methodology,. Since this book is built around real projects; readers will not be frustrated by lack of context and real examples. Introductory content is provided in each chapter and might be a little frustrating for advance readers, but might also be an enriching and learning experience for more novice readers in the field of HCI. The book certainly serves its objective by providing a framework to create business cases in designing for all.
